One of the best things about a Florida holiday is how much there is to do, and you’ll certainly never run out of attractions when you stay somewhere like Orlando. Even if you’re a yearly visitor, you’ll always notice something new being built, just in time for your next visit. If you’re already planning your Florida holiday in 2018, then you’ll be pleased to see many exciting new rides, attractions, and even accommodation scheduled to open next year, and here’s just some of the things we’re excited about.
RidesIf the highlight of your Florida holiday is the rides, then you won’t be disappointed. Several new rides have opened in summer 2016, and many more are planned for next year. LEGO Ninjago – The Ride is being highly anticipated by LEGO fans everywhere, and this family friendly ride will allow you to learn some awesome new ninja skills. Using special 3D technology, it’ll look like you’re firing ice and fire from your hands, and as you progress through the ride you’ll have to take out different bad guys. It’ll be part of a bigger themed Ninjago world, which will open end of April 2018.
May 2018 will see the opening of The Fast and the Furious: Supercharged in Universal Orlando, based on the popular film franchise. The ride will use special 3D effects to make you feel like you’re behind the wheel of one of the movie’s supercharged cars, and is bound to be a thrilling ride. Around the same time, the park will also open Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, which is based on a popular segment from the chat show host’s show. It promises to be a thrilling 3D ride through virtual New York, and will no doubt feature his cheeky sense of humour.
AttractionsThe Orlando area will welcome a couple of big new attractions next year, so it’s worth planning your holiday in Florida for 2018 now. Universal Orlando is going to get its first water park, Volcano Bay, which is currently scheduled to open June 1st 2018. The park will be set around a 200ft tall artificial volcano, which is rumoured will feature a thrill ride, and early sketches have shown features such as a wave pool and rapids. The 53-acre site will feature four main areas, including a relaxing area where you can rent a cabana and enjoy a calmer pool, and an area with rides for younger visitors.
Another major attraction that’s bound to bring in the crowds is the new Pandora–The World of Avatar, a brand new area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom scheduled to open May 27th 2018. This immersive attraction will let you explore the world of Pandora from hit 3D movie Avatar, with animatronics and holograms creating a magical effect. The main rides will be Avatar: Flight of Passage, a flight simulator, and Na’Vi River Journey, a soothing river ride where you’ll see some of Pandora’s unusual wildlife.
AccommodationThose who book a 2018 Florida holiday will enjoy more accommodation options than ever, and as well as some new hotels popping up along International Drive, there are a couple of major new resorts scheduled to open.
Families are bound to love the colourful new LEGOLAND Beach Retreat, which will open over the summer. On a pretty site next to Lake Dexter, the resort will feature 166 units, each of which will sleep up to five, so it’s ideal for those bringing children. These single story units even look like LEGO houses, with a bright, blocky design. The resort should have a casual, beachy feel, with a sandy play area, LEGO themed pool, and a buffet restaurant.
Shopping addicts will love staying at the new iSquare Mall + Hotel, which is also set to open in summer 2018. Set on the corner of International Drive and Kirkman Road, this modern, glass fronted building will offer several floors of shopping and entertainment. Not much is known about the hotel side of the project yet, but it certainly offers an excellent location, and early plans show it’ll have a large roof terrace with pools and green space.
