Things you can do while visiting Clearwater…
East of the Gulf of Mexico and west of Tampa Bay, the Florida coastal city of Clearwater offers plenty of sunshine and plenty to do for all the family.
The outdoor life is a big feature of Clearwater, which is hardly surprising when you bear in mind that the city holds the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive sunny days in one year – an astonishing 361! So naturally, beautiful Clearwater Beach is a popular and award-winning destination; you can relax on the soft sands or enjoy water sports in the warm, azure ocean. The beach also offers regular outdoor concerts.
The Clearwater area is blessed with some superb parks. The Florida Botanical Gardens feature both indigenous and non-native plant life, along with both restored wetlands and more formal gardens. The Pinewood Cultural Park boasts over 180 acres of family-friendly attractions pertaining to local history and the environment. The Heritage Village is a living history museum in the open air, with structures dating back to the American Civil War era.
The city of Clearwater is also noted for its wealth of museums. Here you can find the home of the largest collection of works by Salvador Dali outside Spain. The Museum of Fine Arts is an elegant structure housing a world-class collection of the works of renowned artists. The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Arts boasts an extensive collection of expressionists’ work, including Rouault‘s and Picasso‘s. Great educational fun for all the family can be found at the Great Explorations Hands On Museum, bursting with interactive and tactile exhibits. The making of cartoons and stop-motion animation is explored at the David L. Mason Children’s Art Museum, where kids can enjoy a truly creative experience.
Theatregoers and movie fans will find plenty to keep them amused as Clearwater offers an abundance of theatrical entertainment. The community based Capitol Theater can be found in the historic downtown district, and offers a wide variety of performances. The superb acoustics of the Richard B. Baumgardner Center for the Performing Arts make for some wonderful concert performances. There are also a number of excellent dinner theatres in the city.
Clearwater holidays offers vibrant and varied nightlife. There are plenty of nightclubs catering for all tastes, as well as Coachman Park, a venue that attracts plenty of big names for musical entertainment. A wonderful way to enjoy the ambience of the area is to take an evening cruise on the harbour and admire the city’s pretty skyline.
