Freedom of the Seas

Spotlight on Freedom of the Seas

floridamasters Cruise Holidays

At Florida Masters, we offer a huge range of cruises, and occasionally we like to focus on one of our bestselling cruises. This week, we are looking at Royal Caribbean ship Freedom of the Seas, a lively, family-friendly cruise ship. Here we detail some interesting facts about the ship, and what it’s like on board.

Fast Facts

From its maiden voyage in 2006, until 2009, Freedom of the Seas was the largest cruise ship in the world, winning the honour from the Queen Mary 2. Freedom of the Seas is 1,112 ft long and has 18 decks in total, with 15 passenger decks and a maximum occupancy of up to 4,515 at any time.

Watery Fun

As with many of Royal Caribbean’s ships, the main focus is on the pools, and there are three main swimming areas on-board.

The Flowrider – a surfing simulator – is hugely popular with teenagers, and the cantilevered whirlpool that juts out from the side of the ship offers adults the chance to enjoy spectacular sea views as they relax.

Dining and Drinking

A cruise just isn’t a cruise without indulging yourself in some fine dining experiences.

Freedom of the Seas main dining room offers relaxed yet upmarket dining, and for a special night you might want to visit Chops Grille, the on-board steakhouse, or the Italian restaurant Portofino which also has murder mystery nights. Along the promenade, you’ll find more casual dining options for the family. They include Sorrentos – a 24-hour pizza place – and Johnny Rockets, a 50s diner with amazing burgers and milkshakes.

There are also several bars and lounges, including the Champagne Bar and Cloud Nine Cocktail Lounge.

On-Board Activities

There’s so much to do on-board Freedom of the Seas that it’s hard to list everything.

As with most Florida cruises, you’ll find family-friendly games and activities to enjoy, and the kids’ club is great for kids from age three up until their teenage years.

There’s even in-cabin babysitting for children over one. The ship has a rock climbing wall, mini-golf, jogging track, fitness centre, and so much more to keep you occupied during the day.

Evening entertainment takes place in either the main theatre, or one of the many bars and lounges. Kids can even enjoy late night parties and their own mini-disco. Entertainment takes the form of the usual musical revues and dance shows, but the program is constantly changing, so you’ll never get bored. There are also 3D screenings of movies, and Dreamwork themed experiences with characters on board and parades.

If you’re looking for a cruise with non-stop action and lots of family-friendly facilities, then you can’t go wrong with Freedom of the Seas. Everything has been thoughtfully planned and taken care of so you can enjoy your time on-board, and come back home with lots of great memories.
