For some of the world’s most blissful beaches, amazing theme parks and endlessly sunny weather, Florida is hard to beat, whether you want a family holiday, honeymoon or romantic escape, golf break or spa trip. There’s also plenty of shopping and nightlife to enjoy, as well as outdoor pursuits, from cycling to fishing to kayaking.

Florida is larger than England, and essentially divides into five different areas as far as tourism is concerned:

North-east Florida

Central Florida

Nearly two thirds of visitors spend at least some of their Florida holidays in Orlando, at the heart of the state and where you’ll find the Disney, SeaWorld and Universal theme parks, alongside many other attractions. With 400 hotels in all, Orlando’s holiday resorts are very varied, and include the Sheraton Lake Buena Resort, the Blue Heron Beach Resort, Floridays Resort Orlando, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort and the Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. Many people also love staying in Kissimmee hotels, where accommodation is particularly varied and plentiful.

Gulf Coast

Best Resorts in FloridaWith over 200 miles of incredible white-sand beaches, no wonder visitors love the Gulf Coast. In Clearwater and St Pete’s Beach, you’ll find more exclusive resorts, popular with those marrying or honeymooning in the area.

South-east Florida

West Palm Beach has been an exclusive beach resort since the early 20th century. Other resorts further south include Deerfield and Pompano Beaches and Boca Raton, while Fort Lauderdale is nearby, as is the state’s biggest shopping mall, Sawgrass Mills.

The Keys

These chain-linked islands, once home to Ernest Hemingway, begin in Key Largo, home to the annual Bogart film festival and a paradise for scuba divers. Resorts in the Keys include Island Bay, Little Palm Island, Pier House, Tranquillity Bay Beach House, the Islander and the Caribbean Resort, giving visitors plenty of choice for high-quality accommodation.
