What’s Happening in Florida in 2018?
Florida is always an exciting place to visit, whether you opt for the theme parks of Orlando, or the laidback beaches of Key West. However, what many visitors don’t realise is just how many events take place across Florida every year, from parades and carnivals, to food festivals and American football games. That’s why Florida Masters have put together a list of some of the attractions coming up next year, so if you’re planning a Florida holiday for 2018, you may be able to catch one of these lively events. Here are some of the things we’re looking forward to the most.
Jan 2018 (date TBA) – Gasparilla Pirate Fest – Tampa
Don your eye patch and pirate hat and join the fun at Gasparilla Pirate Fest in late-January. Several vintage ships will be docked, and a colourful parade of pirates will take to the streets for an all-day party. For those with young children, there’s a smaller, alcohol-free event a few days before, with lots of family fun to be had.
Early Feb to late April (selected dates) – Orlando Mardi Gras – Universal Orlando
Claiming to be Florida’s biggest party, Universal’s Mardi Gras celebrations take place on selected dates, from around early February to late April. Capturing the lively spirit of New Orleans, but in a more family friendly environment, the events feature live music, parades, Cajun street food, and of course, lots and lots of beads. There’s even a parade viewing area especially for kids.
Mar 1st to May 29th 2018 — Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival – Disney World Orlando
This bright, colourful Spring event has something for all ages, and is ideal for those looking for a laidback family day out. Dozens of flowering gardens with Disney themed topiaries are on display, and there are interactive exhibitions and playgrounds that the kids will love. If you’re booking a holiday in Florida for 2018, then planning a day at this sweet little festival gives you a nice break from the chaos of the theme parks. With live music at weekends, international food stalls, and interesting tours, it’s something a little different.
Mar 12th 2018 – Carnaval Miami – Miami
One of the country’s biggest celebrations of Hispanic culture, the colourful Carnaval Miami is an event you’re bound to remember. Covering over 23 blocks, this huge street party takes place in lively areas such as Little Havana, where you can enjoy Cuban cuisine, live music, and large cocktails, with the party going on until the small hours.
July 4th 2018 – Independence Day at SeaWorld Orlando – Orlando
Spending the 4th of July anywhere in the USA is an unforgettable experience, and the theme parks of Orlando go all out with patriotic decorations and themed shows. SeaWorld Orlando features a special Summer Nights show that begins at 10PM, and features a spectacular fireworks show, live music, and much more.
Mid-Sep to Mid-Nov 2018 (dates TBA) – Epcot International Food & Wine Festival – Disney World Orlando
Aimed mostly at grown up Disney visitors, although there’s a few things for kids to do, the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is a huge, two-month long event taking place in late 2018. From live cooking demonstrations, to wine tastings, live music, and seemingly endless international food stalls, it’s a great event for foodies.
