A Perfect Day in Miami

A Perfect Day in Miami

floridamasters Things To Do

Sure, one day may not seem like enough to explore everything Miami has to offer, but you can definitely get a slice of the city’s culture, flavours, colours and personality.

Are you visiting Miami soon? Not sure what to do in only 24 hours? Happily, we’ve put together an itinerary that’s sure to satisfy holidaymakers of all tastes and budgets…

The Morning

It’d be rude not to rise early in this buzzing metropolis, so make sure you set an alarm if you’re not much of an early bird.

Begin the day with a brisk walk or cycle along the boardwalk and feast your eyes to what’s going on around Ocean Drive with the awesome Art Deco buildings. Top up your energy levels with a tasty breakfast under umbrella at News Café – it’s especially great if you like people watching (which we’ll admit to!). Another option is The Front Porch Café – be sure to get a takeaway coffee for a much-needed caffeine fix, as you’ll most certainly need it to keep up with the itinerary we have planned!

After you’ve re-fuelled, pay a visit to The Wolfsonian-FIU, a design museum boasting a whole host of American and European decorative and fine arts produced between 1885 and 1945. If you have children, they’ll stay entertained for hours at Jungle Island or Miami Children’s Museum. Both are located along MacArthur Causeway, just in between Downtown Miami and South Beach.

Dinner and Dancing

You might want to take a power nap at your hotel before getting your glad rags on for a night of fun. For those with a soft spot for seafood, Joe’s Stone Crab is where you’ll try Miami’s infamous crustacean. Often swarming, this seasonal restaurant is incredibly popular – so expect to have to wait around for a while before you get a table.

Failing that, you could go to Joe’s Takeout next door which serves up some of the best Key lime pie and stone crab around. Meat lovers won’t be disappointed with a dinner at Meat Market, a sultry steakhouse on Lincoln Road. If it’s luxury you want, it’s luxury you’ll get at Azul, whilst Barton G is the place for serious originality. On a budget?  You’ll have a blast at Burger & Beer Joint.

If you haven’t already, it’s worth buying show tickets from the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts or take your dancing shoes to Mangos for a night of international talent, cuisine and entertainment where leopard-spotted, spandex-clad dancers are the name of the game! Once you’re done with the salsa scene, meander along to Clevelander for a refreshing cocktail or two beside the outdoor pool.

Night Owls

If nightclubs, nibbles and nightcaps are your thing, your night out in Miami wouldn’t be complete without a trip to one of its legendary nightclubs. Keen clubbers won’t go wrong with the awesome nightclub Space, whilst Mynt, SET and LIV on South Beach are where it’s all at for clubber in their 20-somethings.

When the post-night-out hunger pangs kick in, check out Pizza Rustica for a slice of the good stuff (maybe something spicy?) – which stays open until 3a.m. – or often as late as 6a.m.

So, there you have it: Miami in 24 hours. It’s doable, and enables you to taste the city’s treasure-trove of sights. Just make sure you don’t spend most of the time sleeping or you might miss out!
