It’s Father’s Day on Sunday 18th June. Will you be in Florida when the occasion rolls around? We’re pretty sure most dads would rather do something more exciting than be given the proverbial socks.
Whether your dad’s fanatical about fishing, crazy about golf or just loves chilling, there are ample options for all types of dads – from bars, to restaurants, to parks and more. No matter what his interest, your dad’s sure to enjoy one of the below Father’s Day ideas in Florida this year…
1. For the Golf-Loving Dad
Florida certainly doesn’t slack in the golf courses department, boasting over 1,000 courses – perfect for gold-mad dads. Three of the best ones include:
- PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, which is home to four courses, with a short course for beginners. It’s ranked among the ’75 Best Golf Resorts’ by Golf Digest.
- Abacoa Golf Club: This is one of the best public golf courses in South Florida, ideal for both amateurs and pros alike. Dads will enjoy the scenic views with 14 of its 18 holes surrounded by water.
- Martin Downs Golf Club: A semi-private course, Palm City offers tee times to the public seven days in advance, and it’s an excellent choice if your dad’s in need of some serenity.
2. For the Stressed-Out Dad
If your dad’s stressed-out and needs some peace and quiet, treat him to a spa day (yes, guys can enjoy spas too!).
Some of the best spas in Florida include the Waldorf Astoria Spa at the Boca Resort, dubbed the No. 1 spa in the world in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Then there’s the Seagate Spa in Delray beach, which boasts an 8,000-square-foot spa, Vichy shower, seven private treatment rooms and much more besides.
Another first-class spa includes The Spa at Lago Mar in Fort Lauderdale, famous for its unusual blend of modern European style and commitment to age-old spa traditions.
Or instead, you could arrange a massage session for your dad – or give him one yourself!
3. For the Beer and Burger-Mad Dad
Dads, burgers and beer are, for most dads, a marriage made in heaven. If your dad loves food of the fuss-free kind, then a trip to a sports bar like Quarterdeck is sure to thrill or go to Tarpon Bend Fort Lauderdale for a tasty lunch, dinner as well as take advantage of the legendary happy hour.
Another excellent restaurant to take your dad to on Father’s Day is Boston’s on the Beach in Delray Beach, which has been serving locals and tourists alike for 35 years.
If burgers are really his thing, you can’t go wrong with Grease Burger Bar in West Palm Beach, which boasts a selection of 120 craft beers available by the bottle or on tap as well as award-winning 10 oz burgers.

Or there’s Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, which also offers nature trails and bike paths.
If your old man’s prefers the tranquillity of the beach and is in need of some sea air, then take him to one of these five fabulous beaches in Florida – we think he’ll especially love Clearwater Beach or South Beach.
5. For the Fishing-Crazy Dad
If you have a devout fisherman on your hands, take your dad to a state park or local fishing pier. Alternatively, head out on a day trip to Jupiter or Stuart for a truly awesome fishing getaway.
The Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier attracts hundreds of fishermen each year. As well as being able to hire fishing rods, the pier concession offers fresh, frozen bait, tackle, fishing accessories plus t-shirts. What’s more, you can organise a group of private fishing lesson, should your dad need a little refresher lesson.
The piers further north in Martin County at Jensen Beach Causeway or Stuart Causeway are wonderful for snooking a hook, whilst Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound offers freshwater fishing.
